October 19th Coffeehouse W/ Diane Holbrook & Dave Kelly Opening

diane holbrook promo pictureDiane Holbrook is a life-long musician who sings, plays guitar, piano and flute, composes and performs original songs and plays her own arrangements of cover songs. She performs solo and with other musicians and loves instrumental and vocal harmony.

She plays out regularly at many of the open mic venues in the greater Boston area and has featured at the Catbird Café at the New England Wildlife Center, the Whitman Wellness Center, and the Roslindale Open Mic.

Diane’s musical taste is varied. She loves listening to bluegrass, traditional jazz, swing, blues, bosa nova, and folk. But her real passion is in composing and performing music that is reminiscent of the jazz-swing era of the 30’s and 40’s.

Her music has been and continues to be influenced by the music of Daniel Byrnes, Rolly Brown, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Robben Ford, Ryan Adams, Tony Rice, Joni Mitchell, Norah Jones, James Taylor, the Beatles, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Sergio Mendes and Brazil ‘66, and Hoagy Carmichael.

Her mentors are her grandfather, who taught her to play piano at age six, Daniel Byrnes who taught her to play guitar at age forty-nine, and Rolly Brown, who continues  to teach her about playing the guitar and performing.

dave kelly promo pictureDave Kelly has been playing guitar for about 20 years. Over the past 10 years he has played at various open mics, library shows and some local eatery gigs. ”

For the most part I really identify with Texas singer songwriters, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Tom Russell and Ray Wylie Hubbard to name a few. I like playing and interpreting their songs; songs of loss, lost love, people on the fringes. I love sharing their songs with others in the hopes that they will then in turn gain an appreciation for talent that I think a lot of the times so unnoticed.”
